Photovoltaic Solar Design Engineer

Key Resposibilities:

Design Engineer will be required to conduct technical designs of photovoltaic solar installations. Solar Design Engineer will also need to analyze the performance of resource and system energy yield calculations, including site measurements of factors such as shading. Installation and use of field monitoring equipment to conduct resource assessments, energy use/output studies, and confirm expected savings/benefits. Candidate will be capable of providing accurate CAD drawings/specification of a proposed rooftop installation and ideally 3 years of applicable experience performing technical work related to renewable energy and/or energy efficiency. Excellent quantitative and organizational skills and a background in engineering, physical science, or equivalent technical expertise is preferred. The ability to work both hands-on and analytically as well as the ability to successfully manage projects and complete projects on budget and on time. An ideal candidate will have one or more of the following: Specific experience working with common solar energy related software for use in resource assessment and system modeling. Knowledge of computer based drafting software, surveying techniques, permitting, and/or construction management related to renewable energy projects. Knowledge of state/national codes and standards as applied to renewable energy systems/projects.

Specific Resposibilities:

  • Accurately design functional array as specified by client on AutoCAD
  • Assist Project and Field Management staff with technical troubleshooting and design details
  • Responsible to assist other staff determine the best possible array designs and materials to be used for each project.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of applicable experience performing technical work related to renewable energy and/or energy efficiency is preferable
  • Any additional experience with electrical systems is preferred
  • Any post secondary courses in photovoltaic systems, or renewable resource applications is preferred
  • Competence in AutoCAD is mandatory
  • BS degree in ME or EE or related discipline preferred
  • Knowledge of photovoltaic systems, NEC/CSA requirements, construction practices
  • Demonstrated ability to lead  cross functional teams
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code, California Building Code, California Electric Code, etc.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial
  • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies
  • Strong communication skills
